12 Sep 2012 A stunning evening round in Arorangi. Clear skies, a metallic sunset and a still, warm night. Maureen and fam. visited us, bringing well-wishes from NZ. Ani (aka ‘The chicken pocket lady’), had in-laws visiting and took a break from the truck to grab a pic. Some of our big prints (blow-ups), will soon be gracing the walls of a family homestead in Mangere.
A new vendor joined the market tonight, selling seafood laksa and (our dinner pick), fresh Cajun chicken salad on rice, w. chunks of fresh local avocado.

8 Sep 2012 A taste of Summer at the market today. A number of reasons to celebrate in the booth: weddings, honeymoons, birthdays; new additions to the family; and visiting family and friends. Our backdrop (Lime Fruit Salad), is always POPular with boothers. We also debuted our new range of special frames from Picture Paradise. Just $20 and $25 for 6"x8" frames - for our blow-ups - a variety of styles, in white, black, and wood finishes.

6 Sep 2012 Rain was threatening this evening - visible up on the hills behind our house, but it stayed clear of the market. As promised we had a new addition to the market tonight - Nima’s range of vegetarian foods had locals coming all the way from Arorangi. The falafel were the first to sell out, so we went for couple of crispy coated rice balls. Yum.
Highlights from the booth were solo-kid-portraits (feat. ‘Monkey’), a final photo-op for visitors catching the early morning flight home, big groups and family pix.

29 Aug 2012 The Pacific Leaders Forum saw a few market-regulars drafted into service this week - from driving to catering, pretty much the whole island has been swept-up in the preparations and logistics for the event. The market was visited by the Chinese delegation, who took in the craft stalls and Cook Islands dancing. It was a slow booth night - made brighter by a group of visitors who took couples photos for their grandchildren. We also welcomed the return of AWOL stall holders from last year debuting new products, including chilled mango and passionfruit juice - manea maata.

25 Aug 2012 Visitors to the island for the Pacific Leaders Forum arrived in Rarotonga this week, so there were a few new faces (and dialects), at the market today. PICI continued their CI shark sanctuary petition just behind us - sign it when you seem them. One family visiting the booth let us know that we’ve made a ‘top things to do in Raro’ list - meitaki maata:).

18 Aug 2012 A Saturday of big family groups down at the market - the occasions including an escape from the NZ Winter, weddings, and a 60th birthday. We also had Jess and volunteers from the Pacific Islands Conservation Initiative (PICI) promoting the proposed Cook Islands Shark Sanctuary - collecting signatures and selling a great range of t-shirt and singlet tops. Head over to their FB Page and Like ’em.

15 Aug 2012 For the Akaoa Night Market’s first birthday we celebrated with a mini-session of free photo strips - just the beginning of an awesome night. It was nearly a year-to-the-day since the first market, and some of our very first Akaoa boothers grabed an anniversary pic. The Rotaract team were on hand to keep the kids busy, and quickly sold out of their range of fruit platters and cake treats. The night’s entertainment included a fashion show featuring accessories by TeRa and evening wear from Te Aranui Hut. Next up, champion dancer, Mary Taio mesmerised the crowd. We were then treated to an acoustic set by a visiting performer (anyone have his details?). Finally the Tamariki Manuia fire dancers lit up the stage.
We’d like to thank all of the Akaoa organisers and performers for a great night - meitaki maata.

9 Aug 2012 It was all about the local this week. Firstly our new backdrop: Tongareva. This print is also available in a sheet and duvet set in a range of colours, and only from the Takitumu Market. Sam was roped into adding some local flavour to a visitor’s pix; we met some of Vanessa and Andy’s guests from tomorrow’s wedding; and the Peyroux family from the Kia Orana Store (our ‘local’), dropped by.

4 Aug 2012 We took some time out from TMN for the Saturday morning market. Today the Kennings descended en mass for a family photo session. We played host to the Pasifika group (in the blue Ts) from Wanganui. Also my aunty Sharon dropped by - although my flu tablets had me a bit befuddled for a bit…
