Te Maeva Nui / Constitution celebrations commemorate the self-governance of the Cook Islands. Festivities and cultural competitions and Trade Days are held each year over a week in late July-early August.
Showing 1-10 of 15 matches for Te Maeva Nui (tag).
4 Aug 2012 Our final TMN session for this year. Constitution day celebrations were brought forward (from Monday), so we were setting up while formal proceeding were underway in the auditorium. Once the VIPs had left, we were treated to a showcase of the best of the TMN performances, and live music from Ru and crew.
Meitaki maata to everyone who visited us at TMN this year - photo strip reprints and big photos are available from us at the booth.

3 Aug 2012 The Manihiki community returned to the booth tonight and turned out some striking frames. Being the end of the working week, boothers were looking fine - and ready to head into town at the close of the TMN performances.

2 Aug 2012 Word of our offer to bump performers to the front of the queue appears to have spread (thanks Kate). So more costumes were squeezed into the booth tonight. There were even one or two visitors to the Cooks who got some pix too :).

1 Aug 2012 A few more families discovered the booth tonight. For some visitors it was a final chance to get some great photos before returning home. This was also the debut of our new 'Aitutaki' (blue) backdrop.

31 Jul 2012 Each TMN we see a new range of t-shirts in the booth - from vaka, islands, and this year visiting groups, such as the SEHCO group from AK. The dancers from Tongareva and Mangiia visited us tonight - direct from the stage. We also took some pix for newly-weds, families, a few other market-types and the behind-the-scenes crew.

30 Jul 2012 The first night of competition at the auditorium - with a few international cameos. First-up: an encore performance from visitors from Raetihi (NZ); and after intermission, the lovely ladies from the American Ragtime Dolls took to the stage. The girls from Tongareva also made the most of the booth in their stunning purple costumes.

29 Jul 2012 A gentle Sunday at the auditorium for the choir and imene tuki section of Te Maeva Nui. We had a few boothers from the hostels drop by - including the Tongareva girls. The tere uniforms added some visual dazzle, and we took some cool cousin shots too.

28 Jul 2012 We dedicate this album to our guests from Raetihi - here to represent NZ at Te Maeva Nui celebrations. One wahine proudly informed us that “where we’re from it gets to minus 15” - so the whole group were enjoying the relative warmth of the Raro Winter. We also saw Arorangi regulars from the Akaoa Night Market and Vaka Puaikura concert sessions, including acting PM Tom Marsters.

6 Aug 2011 Punanga Nui was rained out, so we moved to the afternoon drumming competition at the auditorium. Manihiki made a late break in the 'most-T-shirts-in-the-booth' stakes, but Tongareva still came out on top ;)
