The beach-side market features local foods, craft and entertainment, often including Zumba :). The market runs from 5-9(-ish) and is a great location from which to watch the sunset.

Akaoa Night Market, 19 Dec 201219 Dec 2012 A mini-Christmas celebration, feat. a host of performers including an acoustic set by Jaik Berg, island dance by Mii Andrew, and a guest appearance by Tani and Maiata; the evening compèred by the dynamic trio of Lynch, Marsters, and Vaiimene. A booth highlight were the karoke carols, including automated score card at the end of each track - “Oh look, I got 100, and I wasn’t even singing…”.

Akaoa Night Market, 26 Sept 201226 Sep 2012 A sleepy market tonight gave us a chance to chat to the other stall holders. In the booth we had visiting school teachers, dancers from Highland Paradise, plus pix with siblings and family portraits. This was our last Akaoa for a month or so… Hope to be back early November :).

Akaoa Night Market, 12 Sept 201212 Sep 2012 A stunning evening round in Arorangi. Clear skies, a metallic sunset and a still, warm night. Maureen and fam. visited us, bringing well-wishes from NZ. Ani (aka ‘The chicken pocket lady’), had in-laws visiting and took a break from the truck to grab a pic. Some of our big prints (blow-ups), will soon be gracing the walls of a family homestead in Mangere. A new vendor joined the market tonight, selling seafood laksa and (our dinner pick), fresh Cajun chicken salad on rice, w. chunks of fresh local avocado.

Akaoa Night Market, 29 Aug 201229 Aug 2012 The Pacific Leaders Forum saw a few market-regulars drafted into service this week - from driving to catering, pretty much the whole island has been swept-up in the preparations and logistics for the event. The market was visited by the Chinese delegation, who took in the craft stalls and Cook Islands dancing. It was a slow booth night - made brighter by a group of visitors who took couples photos for their grandchildren. We also welcomed the return of AWOL stall holders from last year debuting new products, including chilled mango and passionfruit juice - manea maata.

Akaoa Night Market’s First Birthday, 15 Aug 201215 Aug 2012 For the Akaoa Night Market’s first birthday we celebrated with a mini-session of free photo strips - just the beginning of an awesome night. It was nearly a year-to-the-day since the first market, and some of our very first Akaoa boothers grabed an anniversary pic. The Rotaract team were on hand to keep the kids busy, and quickly sold out of their range of fruit platters and cake treats. The night’s entertainment included a fashion show featuring accessories by TeRa and evening wear from Te Aranui Hut. Next up, champion dancer, Mary Taio mesmerised the crowd. We were then treated to an acoustic set by a visiting performer (anyone have his details?). Finally the Tamariki Manuia fire dancers lit up the stage.
We’d like to thank all of the Akaoa organisers and performers for a great night - meitaki maata.

Akaoa Night Market, 18 July 201218 Jul 2012 A quiet Akaoa this week - fortunately we had great company :). Meitaki to aunty Vicki’s family who took the opportunity to get photos with while visiting from Australia. A few regular boothers called by to bust out some great poses. We also helped to commemorate a holiday with friends (apparently a time-honoured tradition).
Akaoa takes a break while Te Maeva Nui is on, but keep your eyes peeled for the market's first birthday celebrations, mid-August.

Akaoa Night Market, 4 July 20124 Jul 2012 Our first Akaoa in a couple of months! Definitely a bit chillier after sunset, but made warmer by great music and a performance tonight by Mii. This was our first official outing for our new Imene Tuki (coral), backdrop - a pretty good match for the sunset colours out West.

Akaoa Night Market, 25 April 201225 Apr 2012 This week saw the launch of the new TeRa fashion label at the market, complete with catwalk and exclusive offers for market-goers. In the booth we debuted our new Neon Blue backdrop. We also met travel agents on a ‘famil’, wedding groups from the Edgewater and took a farewell pic for the Pouao family.

We continued our competition for Bring Home the Love tickets with a suitably rasta backdrop.
